THIRSK’S men’s team defeated Slazengers away 2-1.

The visitors took the lead Paul Doyle broke down the right wing though and delivered an inch perfect cross for Luke Carey, who had excellently timed his run to arrive at the far post.

Andy Loftus made several key saves in the Thirsk goal to help the visitors keep their lead going into half time.

After the breakdown of a Slazenger attack, Thirsk looked to counter attack and after building from their own 25 with a swift flowing move involving six separate players Carey managed to power towards the opponents area and several passes later, Partnehiemer slotted the ball away.

Slazengers halved the deficit with three minutes remaining but Thirsk were able to shut up shop and comfortably see out the remainder of the game.

Meanwhile, the men’s seconds simply overwhelmed an under-strength Boston Spa team on Saturday to win 12-1.

Liam Evans opened the scoring with two first half goals but Boston Spa did make it 2-1 through a breakaway goal, beating Phil Young in the Thirsk goal.

Chris Gabbut made it 3-1 before half-time as his lifted shot was deflected in. The second half was virtually all oneway traffic, and Thirsk strung together several passing sequences which were all too much for their opponents.

In all, Thirsk added a further nine goals, two more for Evans, two for Trevor Bosomworth, and Cummings, and one each for Rafe Skippings, Sam Gardiner and James Laking.

Young did make one telling save, but really the 12-1 final score said it all.
