RIDER Andrew Bartlett from Bolam, was the youngest winner at Hutton Horse Trials recently.

The 13 year old Barnard Castle School pupil competed on his own gelding Cappagh More to beat off stiff competition from riders up to four times his age in the Rheged BE100 Open Section H Class, winning on a score of 42.2.

The British Eventing accredited Hutton Horse Trials is in held at the home of Lord and Lady Inglewood at Hutton in the Forest, near Penrith in Cumbria.

Andrew only began eventing this year, and has already made his mark having gained second place at Shelford Manor in Nottinghamshire and competing as a Zetland Hunt Pony Club team member in the Pony Club Intermediate Championships which were held at Draycott House, Derbyshire.

Next year Andrew has plans to further his equestrian accomplishments as he looks to move up to novice level.

Bartlett also had another horse, Clonshire Kestrel, competing in the Junior Regional Area Final, and said of the event: “The event had a very nice course and was very well run. The show jumping was quite testing and winning came as a shock.”
