COLBURN Town maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a surprisingly comfortable 6-0 home win over Buck Inn Broncos last Saturday, writes RICKY BUTLER.

The Broncos were expected to be one of the biggest threats to the Colburn title challenge but the hosts brushed them aside with comparative ease.

After an even opening 20 minutes, goals from Stu Murray and Steve Adams put the leaders in control by the break while Murray went on to take his tally to four in the second half, making it 14 in just five matches for him this season, before an own goal completed the rout.

The only other team with a 100 per cent record are Leyburn United after they recovered from a slow start to win 7-3 at Carperby Rovers. The hosts raced into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 15 minutes thanks to a free kick by Paul Stephenson and a strike from Dave Moore, but Leyburn pulled a goal back just before break through Ritchie Weedall and that changed the whole complexion of the match.

Lee Fawscett struck twice in the second half to give the visitors the lead while Chris Greig, Stuart Gall, Dave Harmsworth and an own goal then sealed the points before John Pickard hit a late Rovers consolation.

Richmond Town Academy were looking to maintain their own 100 per cent start at Hawes United but they were beaten 2-1. Darren Bell gave the hosts a fully deserved halftime lead with a fine shot into the top corner but the Academy were level within three minutes of the restart thanks to a penalty from Sean Radford.

Hawes then regained control of the contest and Jonathon Champion won it when he rose to head home a cross from Lloyd Iveson 15 minutes from time.

There was a thrilling game at Reeth where visitors Richmond Mavericks staged a dramatic late comeback to win 5-3. Mark Fleetwood gave the Mavs an early lead but Reeth looked in control by the break as Steve Bainbridge, Eddie Emerson and Danny Plumb gave them a 3-1 advantage.

Jason Tobdell put the visitors back into it on the hour and that set up the thrilling finale as Tobdell equalised five minutes from time before Joe Southgate and Fleetwood again then won it in stoppage time.

Buck Inn Old Boys made it two wins in a row with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Spennithorne and Harmby.

Martin Peacock turned home a cross from Paul Ramsay to give the hosts an early lead which Mickey White doubled before the break.

White then made it 3-0 on the hour and he was only denied a hat-trick by a marginal offside decision late on as the Old Boys eased to another three points.
