FRANK Bainbridge Cup finalists Northallerton Police and Robert Thompsons both warmed up for this week’s final with good league wins last Sunday.

The in-form Police travelled to relegation-threatened Spotted Dog and came away with a fine 2-0 victory. Nathan Henningbrough gave the visitors a 34th minute lead after a long clearance from Johnny Morris was flicked on by Ben Darville, but it was not until three minutes from time when Henningbrough’s second sealed the points.

Meanwhile, Robert Thompsons were piling more relegation misery on Osmotherley FC with a 3-1 home win. An own goal gave the hosts an early advantage but a penalty from Craig Hutton brought the strugglers level before the break.

However, Thompsons regained control in the second half as a brace from Ed Jenkins sealed the points to leave Osmotherley still rooted in the bottom two.

In Division Two, Brompton on Swale look favourites for an instant return to the top flight after they beat visitors Appleton Wiske 4-2. A brace by Rory Atkinson and a strike by Paul Orton put the hosts in control before the break, while Tom Ptak then sealed the points with a powerful header on the hour.

Appleton did not let their heads drop and they scored twice in the closing stages and but it was too little too late and Brompton had another three points.

Three Coopers did their promotion hopes the power of good with a 5-0 home win over struggling The Academy. Matty Allison, Steve Dawson and Matty Goodwin all but sealed the points before the break while Allison and a Goodwin penalty then completed the scoring in the second half.

Barton FC are also in the running for promotion after they edged to a 2-1 home victory over Colburn Town Reserves.

Two first half strikes from Neil Bell were enough to give Barton the points despite a strong second half rally from the struggling visitors that almost brought them an unexpected share of the spoils.

In Division Three, Catterick Village put themselves in the promotion frame with a thrilling 4-3 home win over Scorpion cup finalists West Tanfield, while Henleys won 7-3 at Bar One and Travaux FC beat Osmotherley Rangers 4-2.
