Darlington & District Motor Club had a second chance to run the Eskleth motorcycle trial that was due to be held in March but unavoidably cancelled due to heavy snow.

The trial itself was host to the Elizabeth Simpson Memorial Trophy which was awarded to the winner of the Clubman Class, Paul Saddler who took the top spot with an impressive round of 15 points.

The scene was set for the Eskleth trial back in March but thanks to an unwelcome blanket of snow it was unable to go ahead as planned, however as the snow melted the flags remained, as the hard work had already been done there was only one thing the club could do and the trial was set to be rerun on April 23 in much friendlier conditions.

The trial comprised of two laps of 16 marked sections that were split into a figure of eight, the majority of sections were considered straight forward but there were a few more challenging sections thrown in to keep the competitors on their toes.

The overall win was taken by 18-year-old Elliott Laws from Richmond on his Birkett Scorpa 300. It was Elliott's first outright win, hopefully the first of many to come.

Class winners were as follows. Hard Inter: Jack Stones. Hard Novice: Robert Wetherill. Hard A Class: Harrison Skelton. Green: Andrew Lishman. Over 40: Adrian Harrison. Easy Twin: Robin Luscombe. Easy A: Adam Lynam. Easy B: Josh Bent. Easy C: Alfie Astwood.

Darlington & District Motor Club would like to thank all the competitors, the landowners, famers and gamekeepers for the venues, the observers and those who mark out.

The club's next trial will be hosted in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance on June 25 at Braidley, DL84TX. For further information see www.darlingtonmc.com.
