Richmond Motor Club. Iron Banks, Easy Trial, Sunday, April 18.

OVERNIGHT rain at Iron Banks slightly tested 47 competitors that contested the Richmond Motor Club's easy clubman and youth trial on Easter Monday.

Clerk of course Andrew Swainston plotted 16 sections and three laps with some gradients included that got the legs moving. The youngsters, under the supervision of Paul Astwood, rode a three-lap eight-section course. Four-year-old Edward Gospel rode in Class C alone and recorded 18 cleans and just one stop in section two on his third lap – a boy to watch out for!

On the main course, former top road racer Mick Grant turned in the best score of 20 penalties which rather shaded Darren Fowler's class-winning 31 and Over 40s supremo Eric Brunskill's 44. SWM expert Steve Watling was next up on the countdown to Grant then Bryan Bayes. Beth Watling was also riding an SWM fitted with a Yamaha four stroke engine.

Needless to report but brother Ollie was also riding and on SWM. Hawes youngster Bailey Huntbach won Class C from Coverdale boy Josh Dent while Charlie Astwood was four dabs under Oliver Wright in Class B.
