Wetherby & District Motor Club. Yorkshire Centre Championship Tetley Trophy Trial, Kingstone Farm, Fellbeck, Sunday.

BRADFORD builder Charlie Smith topped out Sunday with a winning ride at the annual Yorkshire Centre A.C.U. Tetley Trophy Trial at a sunny and dry Kingstone Farm.

Inter grade Vertigo riding Smith rode the 14 Richard Shepherd plotted sections incurring a mere 15 penalties which was six under local ace Danny Gamble. Elliott Laws was the top novice by a mile.

The two-mile lap took in adjoining Smiths and Burtons where five sections tested the field. The east escarpment of rocks was followed by a ride to the infamous Holly Tree, where former Honda trials star Rob Shepherd observed the rugged climb.

Julia Rose was on the tenth stream climb and Patrick Darbyshire on the fearsome but dry grass, climbed across the stream.

Somewhere lurking beyond the boundary wall was Dave Gamble. Two lines were flagged at the Holly Tree but the grip was there.

Falcon contender Thomas Jackson won Clubman A from Ilkley decorator Graham Tales and Lancashire engineer Anthony Ayrton. West Leeds veteran Nigel Crowther was fourth and looked good on his Vertigo.

Neil Gaunt dispatched the Sherco duo of Phillip Hammond and Robert Hardisty with a dab in section three on lap two.

Only 49 competed which was unusual for what is a top class Centre Championship event.
