THE semi-final of the Hillsprint Hambleton Football Combination's Frank Bainbridge Cup saw a thrilling encounter between Durham Ox, N’ton and Catterick Village.

George Battersby gave Catterick the lead with a great free kick after 20 minutes. Sam Vernalls equalised for Ox on 38 minutes, with Dan Baxter claiming an assist. Ox then squandered a host of clear-cut chances. In the second half Catterick’s Harry Beresford and Shane Parkinson put Catterick 3-1 up. Jacob Lever put Baxter through to score on 78 minutes to make it 3-2 Catterick.

Lever then scored a great header from a Bingley cross to equalise and take the tie into extra time. In extra time Baxter scored a brace to complete his hat trick. Chris Smales scored a sixth for Ox on 113 minutes to complete the scoring. Durham Ox will now play Kildale in the final.

In the Hillsprint League Cup semi-final, first division Sportsman’s, N’ton hosted second division Golden Lion, N’ton and had a comfortable 6-1 win. Chris Pattison put Lion ahead on 23 minutes. Dan Caisley equalised for Sporty’s two minutes later. Richard Calvert put Sporty’s ahead on 40 minutes. In the second half Sporty’s scored a further four goals without reply with an Alex Caisley brace and further goals from Scott McNichol and Colin Anderson. Sportsman’s will now face either Kirklington or Stokesley Wanderers in the final.

In the league division one, Cowtons visited Sessay Cricket Club and drew 1-1. After a goalless first half Cowtons took the lead through Kalem Stanger on 59 minutes. Richard Thompson equalised for Sessay on 81 minutes. In the last minute Cowtons' Scott Ryan was through on goal and only a last-ditch tackle by Sessay’s Luke Burnett prevented Ryan scoring, so the points were shared.

Kildale visited Streetlam Farmers and in a very close game won 3-2. Adam Wilson put Kildale ahead on 15 minutes. Dave Bunn equalised for Streetlam on 35 minutes. In the second half Wilson scored two further goals to complete his hat trick and put Kildale 3-1 up after 65 minutes. Ash Turnbull pulled a goal back for Streetlam with 20 minutes left, however, Kildale held on to take all three points.

Division two leaders Shorthorn, South Otterington visited Catterick Rovers and won 7-1. James Coatsworth with a hat trick, Jack Watson with a brace and further goals from Mike Gunnell and Jacob Stayman Collin were the Shorthorn scorers. Bailey Proudlock was the Rovers scorer after 25 minutes.

Third-placed Kirklington visited Catterick Garrison Football Centre and won 4-1. A Guy Keeble brace put Kirklington 2-1 up at half time. Catterick’s goal was an own goal. In the second half Zac Okey and Sanny Lingthep scored a further two goals for Kirklington.

Leeming United visited Katch, N’ton and won 6-1. A Jerry Opoku hat trick, a Luis Emery brace and an own goal were Leeming United’s scorers. Sol Stevens scored the Katch goal on 88 minutes. This was Katch’s final game of the season.
