Richmond Motor Club, Kidstones Trial, Crab Tree Farm, Bishopdale, Sunday.

THE Richmond club excelled again on Sunday at Kidstones, where 84 competitors, of all ages, rode on land that has hosted national trials and youth championship trials. Thanks to land owner Mr Brown and gamekeeper Stuart Dent, the clerk of course Paul Mugridge and his team marked a superb 16-section course which tested all six classes.

In terms of results Leyburn joiner Richard Sadler won the hard route class from Jack Stones. Teenager Ryan Brown topped the novice class from on-form Tom Middleton. Ryan was the only competitor to master section six on lap one. Even winner Sadler incurred a two and one debit on his card.

Roger Williams returned to trialling to beat Glen Quinn and Gary Pears. Predictably Paul Astwood headed the clubman class from Robert Stones and Paul Hayward. The trio signed off on single figure scores as did over 40s winner Adrian Harrison.

The event ran without any drama. Top marks also to event secretary Sandra Fowler, who produced a full set of results in record time.

West Leeds Motor Club, Stan Pitts Trial, Halton Gill, Sunday.

THE late Stan Pitts would have been smiling as the Halton Gill parc ferme filled with competitor's vehicles on Sunday morning. Stan, a driving force behind the West Leeds club for many years, died recently.

Halton Gill is a trials organiser's dream. A huge grassland paddock, divided by a stream from top to bottom, which forms a backdrop for about six sections. To the west another deep gully forms the access route to miles of open moorland, and more streams and rock formations. The return leg takes in other natural hazards then heads down through the top boundary wall. Every metre is an adventure.

The weather was dry on Sunday so three laps and 14 sections were on the agenda. Beta-mounted electrician Danny Gamble set the benchmark, riding the first 12 sections without penalty. 50/50 course winner Nigel Crowther would have been the lowest scorer but a stop in section six on lap two elevated his score to six. Neil Gaunt topped the clubmen, and ladies on 13 which have been eight but for a maximum in the 12th section on the third lap. In all a very good day in the Dales – Stan would have been happy.

Guisborough DMC trial, Fryup Cycle Hub, Sunday.

SKELTON'S Tom Affleck won Guisborough DMC's trial held at Fryup Cycle Hub on Sunday to add the marvellous Dales Trophy to his collection, writes John Watson.

Clerk of the course, Dave Lees, and helpers set three laps of 12 sections over this predominantly rocky moorside and Affleck's only problems came on the climbing rock step at Head House group, five lost and six going astray on the sharp downhill drop and rock step in Hoggarth's wood.

Rob Carter dominated the Intermediates with a remarkable ride of only three marks lost to take the win with Scarborough' Nick Scaife runner up.

There was a tight finish in Clubman A and B class, with Jordan Allanson edging the win in A's by one mark from Liam Smith and, man of many talents, Lance Harland, just a further mark behind.
