LAST Saturday evening saw Heslerton Football Club host its annual presentation evening at Sand Lane.

Though the season was once again cut short by the pandemic, the senior committee still wanted to hold the event in order to reward the team for their endeavours.

Manager Andy Stanton said: "We were adamant for some time, that whenever possible, we were going to stage an awards evening in order to recognise the effort, commitment and great improvement the team had made over the course of the 1920-21 Beckett League season."

The whole squad received individual medals for their service to the Heslerton cause, trophies went to: Players' player of the year – Rob Ruston, runner-up – Morgan Kendrew; Manager's player – Morgan Kendrew, runner-up – Ollie Stanton; Young player – Jayden Isaac, runner-up, Ben Flinton; Top goalscorer – Morgan Kendrew, runner-up – Ben Flinton; Chris Woodhead clubman of the year – Jack Burnett; Storry goal of the season award – Rob Ruston (winner versus Whitby Fishermen); Eddie Driver secretary’s award – Steve Allardice.

The Club also made a special presentation to stalwart Gareth Driver in celebration of his 20 years of playing service at Sand Lane.

The catering was supplied by Alleyways Mobile Traditional Fish & Chips and the club wish to thank them, along with major season sponsors Lowfield Garage of Malton, Dave Webb of Snainton Butchers and Vicki & Neil of The Providence Inn Yedingham.

Rob Ruston also won the prestigious Jonathan Ward players' player of the year award.

Elsehwere in the Newitts.com Beckett Football League, the amount raised for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance following the game between the current Sinnington football team and a team of legends now stands at £1,814 after recent donations were added to the amount raised on the day.

Ryedale Sports Club Football Section are holding a five a side tournament on Saturday, June 26, sponsored by Vantage Scaffolding, consisting of eight teams split into two divisions. Each team is allowed to register nine players.

Games will be seven minutes each way, and at the end of the day the top two teams will play off in the final. On the social side, there will be a barbecue, a bouncy castle (weather dependent), and the bar will be open serving refreshments all day.

Norton United are still on the look out for additional players. They start pre-season training on Saturday, June 19 at St George’s Playing Fields, Norton at 2pm.
