RICHMOND Town Reserves are top of the table and in the title race after an impressive run of results based on a rock solid defence.

Penalty shootouts aside, Town have only let in three goals in their last six games.

A 3-0 win on Saturday over in-form Carperby came after a 2-0 victory over Unicorn — results which ensured there were three teams in the hunt for the Wensleydale Creamery League title.

Two, including a penalty, from Tom Carnegie-Brown and a goal from Edward Lewington secured the points over Carperby.

Lewington and Ross McGuigan both scored in the first-half to give Town the win over Unicorn.

Richmond Mavericks were made to work hard for their win over Reeth.

Brad Galloway and Mark Sims got a brace a piece for Mavs, while Wayne Gredziak, Andrew Pritchard and Jerry Metcalfe also netted.

A hat-trick for Ross Barnet and a goal from Andrew Fenwick gave Reeth meant the game finished 7-4 to the Richmond team.

Another decent game was played out in sweltering heat at Alborough, where Hawes came back from 2-0 down to defeat Buck in the last minute.

Buck were two to the good inside 25 minutes with Davis Addison using his face to deflect a lovely Kris Barker cross, and in-form Connor Dagnall scoring again after Addison found him on the right edge of the box for a low cross shot finish.

That's five in Dagnall's last two games for the Buck and he's making a case for a regular starting spot for the final push of a long season.

Hawes got back into the game before half time with a Tommy Calvert near post strike, and were level on the hour after Brett Calvert broke free of the Buck defence and squared the ball for a tap in for Kory Spink.

Buck had a number of attacking free kicks in the final ten minutes that came to nothing.

Hawes, however were more clinical when a high ball into the box deceived the Buck centre back and 'keeper only for Daniel Richardson to get his head to the ball and guide it into the top corner, in the final minute of normal time to take all three points.

In the remaining game on Saturday, Spennithorne and Catterick Garrison played out a 2-2 draw.

Spenni's goals came from Jack Crook and Kalem Stanger, with Damian Hargreaves and Liam Walker scoring for Garrison.
