ON what should have been Great North Run day, members of Bedale and Aiskew Runners set up their own virtual staging of the event.

It saw 25 socially distanced runners take part in a 13.1-mile run around Bedale on Sunday, September 13.

Some superb times were achieved by those at the front of the field, with Matt Randall coming first in 1hr 28mins, very closely followed by Paul Ellis.

Several PBs were achieved throughout the field including Karen Alford and Ann Harrington, with the biggest cheer being reserved for the last runner home.

The event was supported by a team of 12 marshals, who kept everyone safe and rehydrated throughout.

A spokesperson for the club said: "More importantly the event brought home the importance of togetherness through these tough times and was a superb event to celebrate the success of the club in keeping runners running throughout the pandemic, in a Covid-friendly manner."
