THE cross country season continued at the weekend at Ormesby Hall, where mud, long grass and water, were the order of the day, but the sun was shining.

The course was an interesting real cross country test for the second club championship race of the year.

Juliet Morrrice set the ball rolling in the under 13 girls race, her first ever effort at this sort of thing, and a real toughie to choose. She did wonderfully well, taking 21.10 minutes. Her Mum, Trudy, was in the ladies race over two laps, coming 36th out of 116 in 31.00, but once again, Esther Harrison was the first club lady to finish, 19th in a very good 28.32.

Kirsty Naylor, ever competitive, came 46th in 31.42, Jill Libby 77th in 36.25, Faith Coy 84th in 36.59, Alison Butcher 96th in 39.54, Christine Burn 107th in 45.41, Liz Stephenson 113th in 51.08 and Marian Codling 116th in 55.42.

Men V65 and over ran with the ladies, and Rob Burn, in his element, was 1st V65 in 28.36, Geoff Bullock took 35.56, Ken Evitt 38.48, Alan Wikeley 46.44 and Ian Codling 54.59.

The senior men had to do three laps of the course, which had become even more churned up, and Tom Levi, his usual exuberant self, was 13th out of 135 in 35.22, Stephan Tomaszewski 67th in 41.48, new member Paul Peacock 71st in 42.11, Mike Cropper 87th in 43.45, Jack Fisher 99th in 45.32, David Tervit 106th in 46.35, Adrian Saunders 110th in 47.02, Andy Butcher 114th in 48.07, Martyn Coy 116th in 48.31, Duncan Fothergill 128th in 53.26 and Paul Adams, another first timer in this sort of event, 134th in 62.05.

With much better going at Fountains Abbey the previous day for the weekly Park Run, Mike Cropper was first club finisher out of the field of 429, 25th in 20.23, Ian Crane 187th in 28.19, Paul Adams 261st in 30.40, Jemma Cropper 295th in 32.10, Richard Easby 328th in 33.54, Gillian Crane 348th in 34.47, Ian Codling 394th in 39.01, Marian Codling 405th in 41.16, and Kerry and Nigel Morgan, acting as tail walkers and bringing up the rear in 55.25.

At Northallerton Gary Wilkinson was 20th out of 103 in 24.41, Pieter Bezemer 49th in 29.17 and Phillip Craig 62nd in 30.39. There were 219 runners at the Millfield event, and Paul Chapman came 18th in 22.45, Faith Coy 80th in 27.38, Sarah Scot, doing her first Park Run, 90th in 28.06 and Lindsay Goom 92nd in 28.19.

The Park Run Tourist, Rosie Gatenby, was 105th out of 203 in 31.28 at Parke Park Run, and at the Newburgh Forest event, Alan Simpson came 8th out of 135 in 21.38, Kimberli Werner 109th in 35.39.
