Albion goalkeeper Mathew Ryan has been given a well-earned rest by his country.

A fringe squad named by Australian head coach Graham Arnold for a friendly against Korea Republic on June 7 in Busan excludes several regulars like Ryan.

He has made 84 appearances for club and country since joining Albion from Valencia two years ago.

Ryan's ever-present Premier League record ended in January when he missed four games representing Australia at the Asian Cup. He also played in last summer's World Cup in Russia.

Arnold said: "The last couple of years has been tough on many of our senior players with little rest in between seasons.

"I know what those guys are capable of and I believe it is important they start their new campaigns with fresh bodies and minds.

"They will all be considered again for our first round of qualifiers in September."

Ryan headed off to Bali earlier this week to recharge his batteries.
