Guisborough & D.M.C. Alan Fothergill Trophy, Aislaby Quarries, Whitby, Sunday

A GOOD entry of seventy riders turned out for Guisborough club's Alan Fothergill Trophy trial for a three lap ten section course at a remarkably dry Aislaby Quarries on Sunday.

The event counted towards the Adult Clubman, Twin-shock and Northern Area Championship.

Sadly, only two experts contended for the main silverware but proved in fine form and well matched in what was a tough event, Russ Rooksby from Yarm holding off a strong challenge from Scarborough`s young talent, Zac Collinson, aboard the All Speed Gasser to win by a three mark margin.

Flagged around the old stone quarries above Aislaby village, the second section, a twisting climb over loose going saw Chris Laws drop five, as did Richard Ward and Rob Carter on B route.

Strong rides first lap from Amelia Mayhew, Harrison Skelton and Fantic mounted, Mark Butler.

The third was a real tester, a steep climb over rocks followed by a vicious plunge back down took double figures off both Rooksby and Collinson, while Paul Nelson took a flag out at the very end after a good ride.

Twin shock victor Dave Bell, Bulto mounted, posted a clean ride and never looked like dropping a mark.

The last section, a straight forward hill climb, observed by Pete Simpson grabbed no end of marks, but a fantastic ride from young Skelton, ringing the little 80 cc Beta`s neck to record a loss of just seven, where some of the bigger bikes floundered, but Youth B winner Elliott Laws bettered this by four marks.

Hillsborough M.C.C, ACU S3 Parts Championship Jack Wood Trial, Bradfield Sunday

DENBY Dale national trials star Jack Price won the Jack Wood Trial at Bradfield on Sunday from Leyburn joiner Richard Sadler and Guy Kendrew.

Birstall instructor Dan Thorpe was fourth just two penalties behind Kendrew.

Whickham's John Crinson was placed thirteenth.

Chester rider Phil Houghton won the non-championship class from Askrigg motor engineer Phillip Alderson and Richmond's Richard Fraser. Healugh's Katy Sunter was tenth seven places ahead of Masham Sausages expert Paul Dennis who in turn beat Melmerby motor engineer Stuart Blythe. The latter result will spark off a heated discussion between friends, and rivals.
