March 22 – Friday Animals

The windy conditions didn’t seem to affect some of the scores last week, as the results demonstrated. Jim Hargan was the winner with 41 points and after that the remaining prize places were decided on count-backs. Steve Knox (40 pts) was runner-up, Lee Broadway was 3rd and Graham Tate came in 4th. The front and back 9 prizes were won by Mike Edwards and David Lawrence respectively. Two teams had 117 points with Terri Williamson, Peter Tate, Kevin Palethorpe and David Hall winning on a count-back over Bill Lumb, Ged Wilkinson, Graham Tate and Mike Edwards.

March 23 – Juniors

The Juniors started their day with an exciting live draw for the Alverton Cup Singles Matchplay knockout Competitions. Some first round matches were able to be played, and in the 0-30 Handicap category, Jake Hughes beat Bailey Lawson and Josh Newell defeated Sam Hay to progress to the next rounds. In the 30+ Handicap category the matches were exceptionally close. Thomas Moody, beat Charlie Clark on the 18th hole and after 2 play-off holes Oscar Cullen and Robbie Lee were forced into a replay (could not continue due to potential interference with other Club fixture).

The remainder of the Juniors played their first handicap qualifier of the year and Matthew Driscoll hit a gross 79 and had his handicap reduced. Also, Jake Phipps took opportunity for a reduction playing 1 under par and having his handicap reduced.

March 24 – Captain’s Drive-in

An extremely enjoyable and successful day with 92 players in the morning shot-gun start and 92 players in the afternoon shot-gun start event. The Captain’s Drive-in was also a celebration as the start of a busy season for Bedale Golf Club, including celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the Club during 2019.

The morning results were 1st Andrew Hawkswell, Adrian Hall, Andrew Partridge & Chris Nattrass 91 pts ; 2nd Ian Rushton, Andrew Balsillie, Heath Johns & Craig Donaldson 90 pts (countback required) ; 3rd Richard Harker, Neil Exelby, Les Kitching & Derek Fieldhouse 90 pts (countback required).

The afternoon results were 1st Gary Boothroyd, Tony Howard, Keith Torode & Mike Edwards 90 pts (countback required) ; 2nd Jez Corner, Nathan Corner, Max Weighell & Jonny Weighell 90 pts (countback required) ; 3rd Peter Tate, Kath Tate, Terri Williamson & Graeme Tate 89 pts (countback required).

The Captain’s all drove in from the 1st tee successfully and Mr Captain Hubert Van-Huet drove it 94 yards, the nearest guess was Freda Allinson guessing 100 yards. Lady Captain Moira Hinkles drove it 115 yards and the nearest guess was joint between Mick Hartley & Ged Wilkinson, both guessing 115 yards. Junior Captain Oliver Hay drove it 213 yards and the nearest guess was Leigh Hay, guessing 214 yards.

Also, Congratulations to Heath Johns for scoring a hole in one on the 16th hole in the morning competition.
