Richmond & D.M.C. Andrew Allison Memorial Trial, Holgate, Sunday

GUY KENDREW remained on home ground on Sunday rather than travel to distant events on the national calendar and won the annual Andrew Allison Memorial Trial at Holgate from Wickham visitor John Crinson.

Rob Waite and Pete Sharp were in the equation but both failed to complete the Matt Maynard/ Rob Waite devised two lap sixteen section trial course.

Traditionally the Allison trial pulls strong entries. Sunday was no exception with a massive field of one hundred and thirty five starters in eleven classes.

Courtesy of landowners Oliver Leatham, Barry Braithwaite, David Brown, East Arkengarthdale Estates, Sir Edward Milbank and Raymond Ridley and a fine bright day the events was in the top class level.

Dry Ghyll, Hollins Wood, Braithwaite's Ghyll and a return loop to Cold Bank tested all classes. In the novice ranks Richard Fraser just held on the beat Grand National 'pocket rocket' Robert Weatherill.

The eighth and ninth section cost Robert the class victory when hi score rose by ten penalties.

The Green class is the province of youthful Mark Willis who had his usual rivals Darren Gill and Adrian Harrison in tow.

The Youth Green class was ruled by Andrew Reynolds Who won by a mile from Elliott Laws and Richard Pulman. The 'Old Firm' were in action again.

Paul Sadler set the standard with a one penalty ride that put five up on Andy Kearton, riding his restored 315 Montesa, and Les Richardson.

Not to be outdone Simon Williamson also returned a one mark score to take the Over 40's class.

Steve Watling just won the Twin Shock with Ripon Yamaha rider Paul Mugridge on his case.

Amy Clarke, Liam Clement and Conrad Andrew won the Youth classes. Richmond play again at Kidstones on April 6.

Ilkley & District Motor Club, Ilkley Grand National Trial, Beamsley Moor, Saturday

GLASSHOUSES electrical engineer Danny Gamble lit up the moors above Beamsley on Saturday afternoon to ride his Sherco machine to overall victory in the Ilkley Grand National time trial.

Only Gamble and Barnoldswick engineer Anthony Ayrton broke the two hour time covering three laps of moorland without an inch of tarmac.

Ayrton, well into the over forties age category, won the Inter class just four minutes and three second behind the winner.

Finghall youngster Robert Weatherill really hit the moors with a vengeance His descent down the face of Beamsley Beacon was awesome in speed.

Bellerby's Ryan Brown was also rapid but a sliding front wheel saw man and machine cartwheel into the into the heather.

Ryan was up in a flash and motored off into distance at about the same speed.

The actual times have no effect on the results as both expert three lap route and the shorter two lap club route are calculated of the average of the fastest ten finishers.

The expert time average was 2hrs-5mins-45secs.

The Clubman figures were 1hr-34mins-3 secs.

Gamble, Glusburn builder Nathan Wrigglesworth, Robert Weatherill, and Anthony Ayrton did not incur time penalties.

The coveted Freddy Clayton Trophy was won by Richmond Over 40's contender Chris Tett.

The shorter Clubman route was equally difficult as the entire entry rode all twenty section but only twice.

Consett visitor Chris Barnett won the class with a best on observation and no time penalties from Coverdale's Sam Lambert who was riding his first Grand National.

Win for Sadler

RICHARD SADLER won the Bemrose Trial at Buxton on Sunday riding his JST Gas Gas machine.

The Leyburn joiner headed the awards just one penalty ahead of JST team leader Dan Thorpe.

On Saturday Richard contested the opening ACU British Trials Championship Expert category at Hook Woods, West Horsley and took sixth place.

The winner was Sam Connor.
