A GAME was staged between Bedale AFC and staff from the Heck Food factory to raise money and awareness for Prostate Cancer. Despite windy conditions, Bedale AFC sailed into a 2-0 lead but the factory team fought back to bring the scores level at half time. In a very competitive game, Bedale AFC won by the odd goal in 9 so it was Hot Dogs 5, Sausages 4. The inaugural Heck Football Challenge Cup was presented to David Cook, the Bedale AFC captain by chairman Martyn Coombs.

Bedale AFC reached the national notoriety last year with the world launch of the iconic ‘hot dog’ kit live on BBC Look North which also featured on Norwegian TV. The first sausage kit also reached a global audience and featured on FranceSport TV and was voted the worst football kit of all time. Such is the interest in these football kits, Ollie Shepherd the founder of the Kitted Out Podcast, came up from Birmingham to record interviews with personnel from both the football club and Heck.

Owner Andrew Keeble said ‘after two very successful seasons with Bedale AFC and having had such great fun with both football kits, we decided to call it a day but such has been the pressure from everyone asking us what the next kit would be like, there is no way we could say no. Our marketing company are in the process of designing the new Heck kit for Bedale AFC and their only brief is to make it better (or we prefer worse), than the previous incarnations so watch this space.’

Bedale AFC chairman/treasurer Martyn Coombs said, ‘it looks like the world media frenzy will start again when the new kit is launched. My preference is for Toad in the Goal comprising Yorkshire pudding and a sausage but I will leave the design to the experts. Whatever it is, will be fun and I am sure will create more world-wide acclaim.’
