Ladies 2nds

THIS week Thirsk 2nds travelled away to face the top Harrogate 3rds knowing they would be in for a tough match.

Thirsk were under strength with several players missing and brought in a couple of the u14 team, Amelia and Lauren, for only their second game.

Thirsk started the match well moving the ball around the pitch and took an early shock lead when a ball down the right was crossed to the left post for Hayley to put the ball past the Harrogate keeper.

Harrogate were also creating chances with Chelsea in goal making several good saves to keep Thirsk in the lead, however they eventually equalised.

Thirsk were not deterred by this setback and pressed forward looking for another goal. This came from an aerial free hit in defence from Molly which fell to Fern who passed the ball into the middle to Hannah. She finished with an early strike into the net past the advancing goalkeeper for a well-deserved goal.

Thirsk were now on top of the Harrogate team with Penny, Hattie and Grace in midfield stopping any attacks. A third goal to Thirsk came when an attack left the ball with Grace at the top of the D who hit a reverse stick shot into the goal. The half time score was 3-1 to Thirsk.

The second half was a more even game with chances at both ends. Thirsk had a shot which was just outside the post but Harrogate pulled a goal back with another reverse stick shot which bounced past Chelsea. Thirsk were now under pressure and the game became a bit scrappy. With a few minutes remaining Harrogate had a move down the right which fell to their striker who lifted the ball into the net to make the score 3-3. Overall a fair result. Player of the match was Molly who had another excellent game in defence.

Men’s 3rds

AGAINST Bradford, the first 20 seconds were indicative of a one-sided match.

Thirsk passed the ball briskly between Ben Harrison, Will Norman, Patrick Hunt finding Jack Foxley just outside the D, who beat a defender, drove into the D, shot and scored.

Bradford's first touch was the restart.

Thirsk continued with quick passing finding the wide players from both defence and midfield, opening up the Bradford defence regularly and scoring 6 more before half time.

The only surprise was the Bradford goal from a short corner. The second half was less intense, but 3 further goals followed. Scorers: Ben (3), Will (2), Jack (2), Connor Wilkinson, Ian Foxley and Owen Williams (from left back). Good play from the whole team and 7 wins in a row.

Final score: 10-1

Man of the Match: Ben Harrison.
