WENSLEYDALE’S badminton league doubles tournament witnessed some hard-fought matches.

Held at the Wensleydale School in Leyburn, the tournament was very successful and involved children from the age of seven to adults.

The winners of the under 18 trophy were Megan Dinsdale and Matthew Foxwell.; runners-up were Megan Percival and Nathan Jackson.

Other results: under 8 boy’s winner William Dalton; under 10 winners William Drummond and Rosalyn Civil with William Roberts and Anna Dent runners-up; under 12 winners were Thomas Ford and Orla Sunter, with William and Heidi Drummond runners-up. Alex Ford was the winner of the under 14 section with Thomas Ford runner-up.

In the adult tournament things were very closely-contested with Richard Sunter and Sarah Percival emerging as winners and the runners-up were Andrew Hards and Christina Scarr.

There are junior clubs at Leyburn, Bainbridge, Askrigg and West Burton. Should any adult or young person wish to play badminton either for leisure or more seriously across Wensleydale they should contact Colin Thorpe on 01969 622471 who can put them in touch with the appropriate club.
