THE lure of the Great North run was one of the big events for our runners this week with both juniors and seniors producing some exceptional performances.

However, they also had great runs at Stockton, the Vale of York half marathon and even the World Masters championships held in Malaga, Spain.

Some of the performances of the day came at the junior events in the Great North and Great Tees runs. Shannon Robinson and Holly McCowie had superb runs with Shannon (15:47) in 5th and Holly in 8th (16:29).

Others with good performances were Tom O’Mahoney in 11th (14:29) and Sam Archer was 17th (16:06). Down the road at the Great Tees junior run Richmond were very much in the mix with Dan Francis taking a superb win (14:04), Joe Reeve just off the podium in 4th (15:25) and another good performance from Ollie Middleton in 9th (18:32). The senior Great North had an excellent turnout of our runners with 11 taking to the start line for one of the most iconic half marathons in the world. Rob Scott was the first harrier back for the club (78:01), followed by big runs from Carl Loughney in pb shape (01:30:54, pb), Charlotte Wilton (1:40:04), Kimberley Reeve (1:42:42), Garry Malton and new pb in the process (1:49:11, pb), Robert Dashwood (1:51:38), Robert Haw (1:58:16), and Zabi Dashwood (2:31:06). Also run on the same day is the Vale of York half marathon which has been a happy hunting ground for our athletes over the years and this year was no exception with Carl Jones storming to 6th (2nd V40) in a new pb (1:14:21, pb), Shaun Purkiss in 170th and his quickest time for a number of years (1:30:51), Donna Riddler in 251st (1:34:57), Graeme Ewart in 262nd (1:35:38), Rob Lickley in 331st (1:38:54), Kevin Bond in 493rd (1:45:18), Sarah Gregory in 521st (1:46:37), Ryan Greer in 872nd and another with a new pb (1:57:20, pb) and Karen Greer with another new pb in 872nd (2:27:06, pb). Anthony Jefford ran the Salford 10k to finish in 78th (40:08).

Reece Dalton was 1st finisher at Northallerton parkrun (16:40), Ian Christon was 2nd (19:41) and Shona Fletcher was 62nd (30:58) but beaten by her 6 year old. Ronnie Corbett was 14th at Darlington parkrun (19:37). At Catterick parkrun David Hack was the 1st finisher (17:22), Ronnie Corbett was 8th (19:49), Garry Malton in 38th (25:14), and Ian Hepworth was 39th (25:17, sb). Debs Pennick finished Hartlepool parkrun with only a few weeks to her baby in due (57:28).Further information on the club and training nights can be found on the website www.richmondzetlandharriers.co.uk
