Richmond Motor Club, Andrew Allison Memorial Trial, Holgate, Sunday

RICHARD SADLER ruled the annual Andrew Allison Memorial Trial at remote Holgate on Sunday where sixty six competitors enjoyed a fine warm day and mild sections on the five mile lap in the heartlands of the Scott Trial.

Sadler rode fourteen sections twice and parted with a single penalty in section ten on the first lap to beat friend and rival Guy Kendrew who incurred a damaging three penalty score on the second lap ironically in section three. Bellerby teenager Ryan Brown won the novice class and managed to get the better of Scott Trial winner Philip Alderson. Veteran Philip may be but his skills are legendary. Roger Williams back on dry land from his gas rig in the North Sea. Just how the Norton engineer switches with apparent ease from the rigours of a gas rig to riding a trials machine, and winning without the obligatory hours of practice is a mystery. Leyburn joiner Paul Sadler matched his son with a one mark score to take the Clubman class from Kirklington builder James Langstaff while Leigh Smith pipped Simon Williamson by a mark to take the Over 40’s class. Only six youths competed.

Robert Weatherill took the hard route and was a single penalty behind Ryan Brown while Oliver Towns rode alone in Class A easy to win his category.

Marytn Pratt really did take his rivals to the cleaner in Class B. The Melsonby lad was well clear of his rivals in Class B youth. Richmond stage the Richardson Trial at Skeeby on September 2 at 10.30 am start time.

RIPON Motor Club, 5th Acklams Summer Series trial, Low Skelding, Saturday

No doubt at all that Low Skelding pulls in the trials riders and Saturday was no exception when eighty six dropped in for the fifth Acklams Summer series fifth club championship event. All ages and sizes rode a three lap ten section covering about a míle of pastures and dense woodland. The first main course section was in the same location but the climbs were steeper and the turns tighter. If the opener was easy the second section down in the wood was hard. Brian Ayrton observed the twisting climb which featured a fair amount of exposed tree roots which were wet due to a trickle of a stream. Only Anthony Ayrton and Neil Gaunt cleaned the hard route but Aysgarth top youth Andrew Reynolds got out on a dab on lap one. Phil Hammond was the only green course novice to boss it on lap two. On the easier route Chris Dale and Bantam mounted Joe Bradley ran clean. The The ninth was a just a bog with flags. Josh Swiers, Ant Ayrton, Andrew Reynolds and Oliver Richardson were the only hard course cleans. The small wheelers classes went to Charlie Lister, William Wright and Riley Plumpton. Brothers Joshua and Zac Ramsay dipped their toes in the small wheels class for the first time and completed the course.

Wetherby Motor Club, Blades Trophy Trial, Bayliss Gap Farm, Bewerley, Sunday.

Torrential rain on Friday and Saturday in Nidderdale hardly affected Bayliss Gap Farm on Sunday where the Wetherby Motor Club ran the annual Blades Trophy Trial under Yorkshire Centre A.C.U. restricted to Centre permit. For some reason the entry was way below normal with just thirty six starters at the former world trials championship venue and in three classes. Only five contested the four lap ten hard route while Clubman A featured twenty starters. No youth classes were involved. The sections were moist in places but generally dry Chris Beecroft was on the second section which was hard.

Exposed tree roots and tight round on greenish rocks with a tree or two in the away. Danny Gamble and Sam Beecroft-Penny were dead on the button with three clean rides while Blacker, Hancock and Howlett all dropped marks.

Hancock was best with two well placed dabs. In Clubman A only nine cleans surfaced. Gaunt, Ayrton, Howard Gulley, Adam Thornton, Trials UK Boss Nige Pearson, Shaun Szulhan Gamble dropped his marks in sections five and seven where Beecroft –Penny stopped on lap two.
