JOSEPH O’GORMAN and brothers George and Teddy Hunt represented the North East of England over the weekend of 16th & 17th June in Nottingham.

The Championship side, captained by Joseph O’Gorman and with George Hunt also playing in defence, lost their semi-final and finished 4th out of 10 teams. The Trophy side in which Teddy played in defence came 3rd out of 5 teams. The lads did the club proud. The Championship had 10 teams from around the UK and the trophy had 5 further teams from around the UK. The North East had a team in each competition. Teddy Hunt featured at right back for the Trophy team which beat West Panthers to finish 3rd overall. George Hunt featured at right back for the Championship side that was captained by Joseph O'Gorman, who played at centre-back. The Championship side convincingly beat Mercian Marauders and Annadale (a team from Northern Ireland) before being held to a goalless draw by North West and being well beaten by West Panthers in the final group game. Nevertheless, they had done enough to reach the semi-final. In the semi, against Tensworth, the North East were behind by 2-0 at half-time but a spirited and determined second half display saw them level the game at 2-2. The North East continued to pile on the pressure and Tensworth were clearly rattled, and even had a man sent off. The ball would not fall kindly however in the opposition D and Tensworth got a breakaway in the final 30 seconds of the game resulting in a winning goal. The semi ended 3-2 and Tensworth went on to win the final against West Panthers. Unfortunately, the bronze medal also eluded the North East side as they were beaten by South Saxons (Hampshire) in the 3rd/4th place play off. All three of the Thirsk boys should be proud of their achievements. Joseph had been in the side for three consecutive years and was honoured to have been awarded the captaincy, a role that he carried out in excellent fashion and with great pride. Teddy and George were new to the side this year and performed their duties admirably.
