Darlington & M.C. Trial, Reels Head, Marske

ROB WAITE was the only expert ranked rider at the Darlington trial at Reels Head on Sunday and he duly won his class. The other top Richmond region stars were on a British championship conquest way down in the West Country.

Top youth Ryan Brown also stayed on home ground to take ethe Youth lass A from weekly rival Robert Weatherhill. Anthony Stephen was the best of twenty competitors who rode the green course, half hard and half less hard - allegedly. Only six competitors contested the clubman course which was won evergreen Joe Alderson. Eleven Over 40's competed with Leigh Smith and Scorton's Chris Laws bidding for the top spot. Masham Sausages supremo ran round after his young daughter Martha at the Ripon trial on Saturday and reckoned he had earned a day of peace and tranquillity wrestling with his fifty year Triumph machine.

Ripon Motor Club, Acklams Summer Championship trial, Bewerley, Saturday

RIPON hit the jackpot at sun blitzed White Wood Farm high above Pateley Bridge on Saturday afternoon where the club staged the second club championship trial at the Bewerley venue. A staggering one hundred and eleven competitors, of all ages and sizes, signed on with event secretaries Judith Blyth and Heather Langstaff while the course plotting devised sections to test all classes. Neil Gaunt won the hard course novice class from Aldis Blacker riding the tricky ten sections for a mere two penalties.

The Knaresborough building supplies executive made one vital error when he lost a single penalty on lap one at the second section. That one mark lost him the overall win. Bedale teenager Guy Stones rode his 125cc Beta for one mark, in the last section. In the event of a tie the rider who travels the farthest distance without penalty is the winner. Scorton novice winner Chris Laws and Over 50's winner Tony Calvert along with Darley's Michael Platts managed to ride all ten sections for just a single penalty. The small wheel classes were humming. Charlie Lister and Harvey Blacka won the two classes.

Ripon will run again on June 23 at Home Farm, Hutton Conyers. Start times will 3.00 pm and 5.00pm.

A.C.U. R.T Keedwell British Trials Championship, 4th round, Lustleigh, Sunday

COOKRIDGE trials rider James Dabill continues to dominate the British Trials Championship and won the fourth R.T Keedwell event at Lustleigh, Devon, on Sunday from Denby Dale's Jack Price and Kirkbymoorside challenger Dan Peace.

Devon rider Joe Baker won the Experts class from Leyburn's Richard Sadler and Faceby's Guy Kendrew. The Yorkshire riders, along with Birstall riding instructor Dan Thorpe, head the score line at the mid-season stage.
