Allerton Junior Athletics Club

ON Saturday, club athletes headed north to take part in the Great Edinburgh Winter run.

First up was head coach Glen Hilton who tackled the hilly 5k course to finish 4th in his age group and 15th overall.

In the u10 junior race Sam Archer put in a determined run and was the first AJAC athlete to complete the tough 2.5km course finishing 4th, he was followed by Caleb Stanley who pushed hard to ensure a top 10 finish. In the u10 girls race Annabelle Coxon put in a spirited performance to finish 8th. Moving up to the u14 boys race Paddy Harrison dug deep to finish 58th and in the u14 girls race Holly Hilton worked hard to finish in 23rd place.

Also on Saturday 13th January 4 athletes from Allerton Junior Athletics Club took part in the North Yorkshire Schools Cross Country championships in Knaresborough.

In the year 7 boys race Campbell Darcy put in a fantastic effort to finish as outright winner. He was followed by Cian Winter who finished the hard fought race in 12th place.

In a tough year 7 girls race Beth Swales-Williams finished 27th. And in the junior girls race against older runners Lois Bell finished 39th.

On Sunday 14th January 8 athletes braved the elements to run at the Hemlington Junior Parkrun. Holden Outhwaite put in a determined run to finish in 1st place. Marley Plant tackled the course for the first time to finish 3rd. Hot on Marley’s heels was Douglas Plant finishing 1st in his age category and 4th overall. Henry Kirkbride was next across the line to finish 2nd in his age category and 5th overall. Next across the line for AJAC Ollie Smith in 12th place he was followed closely by Edward Barnbrook in 13th place. Megan Burham finished 2nd in her age category 15th overall and India Laverick rounded things off in 23rd place.

The last event of the weekend was the North Yorkshire Indoor County Athletics competition. All 4 AJAC Athletes – Seth Burnside, Ellie Fielding, Lilly Hutchinson-Burke and Evie Smith put in determined performances at the multi-disciplined event. Notable achievements on the day were Ellie Fielding finishing joint 3rd in the long jump and Lilly Hutchinson-Burke finishing 2nd in the Long Jump, 3rd in the Triple Jump and 3rd in the Chest Push.
