Ladies 2nds away to Hull Uni

THE first match after Christmas saw Ladies 2nds make the long trip to Hull University.

A very mixed team with experience and youth started slowly against a strong undefeated hull side. Thirsk were again without a regular keeper, Lynne Mckewan standing In, performing very well. Chances were few and far between, reaching half time all square at 0-0.

Thirsk made a bright start to the second half, creating chances but unfortunately Hull scrambled the first goal.

Hull were defending very well, not allowing Thirsk many clear cut chances, and with 15 mins left Hull scored their second. Thirsk decided to revert to a kicking-back, which had it risks but gave Thirsk the impetus and created some good chances. But Thirsk found the Hull keeper in great form. The game ended in a 2-0 defeat but the ladies should take heart and bounce back next week at Tadcaster. Player of the Match: Olivia Barber.

Men’s Third’s Team

AFTER an extended break the men's 3rd team had a home game against Boston Spa’s 4th team. Thirsk started the game well with lots of pressure in the Boston Spa half. Liam and Owen distributed the ball between the defence and forwards. When Boston Spa did attack the Thirsk defence were more than capable of clearing their lines. Just before half time though BS managed to sneak a goal. In the second half Thirsk came out with a bit more spirit. Andy went into attack. Within minutes Thirsk had their first goal from Owen, then minutes later Owen popped up again after receiving the ball from Liam. Thirsk were not finished yet though, as Andy got the ball from Alex and lifted the ball into the roof of the net. With one last roll of the dice, BS got one more goal but it was too little too late and the game ended 3-2 to Thirsk. Thanks to Darren for umpiring and Ken for sorting all the substitutions. The team featured Andy in goal, Mike, Andy, Sean and Michael D in defence. Louie, Owen and Sean in midfield. Jonathan and Alex in attack. The subs were Michael C, George, Matty and Hugo.
