THE final race in the Club Championship was the NYSD cross country at Whitby, on a fine cold morning - at Thirsk! On arrival at Whitby, the weather soon produced hail and heavy rain as well as a very cold wind.

As it was Remembrance Sunday, runners stood in silence for a minute before the first senior race was off. Josh Fothergill was 10th home in the under 17 boys event in 22.34. Olivia Mulligan overcame the conditions to finish 9th out of 95 over the 2 lap course in 24.59. Pat Kirby ran well, as ever, to come 64th, and 1st F65, in 31.48, Nicola Booth 69th in 32.01, Tracey Lowther 72nd in 32.28, Alison Butcher 87th in 35.28 and Christine Burn 93rd in 36.30. Geoff Bullock was also in this race and took 31.07.

The men ran 3 laps of the course, which was even muddier in places because of previous races, Mike Lowther came 94th out of 155 in 43.54, Rob Burn 109th in 45.00 and Duncan Fothergill 149th in 52.03.

Getting out of the, by now, well worn field, was interesting, and fish and chips in a local cafe made it all worth while!

Runners at the Dalby Dash 10k, not a huge distance away, were more fortunate, as most of the 476 runners had finished before the heavy rain came, though the cold wind was chilling everyone before the start.

After Race Director, Darran Bilton, gave his usual moving introduction, all stood in silence for the Remembrance Sunday observation. Conditions for the race were actually quite good, once the 3k long hill at the start had been achieved and Lorraine Hiles, in fine form, as ever, finished 76th, and 1st F50 out of 66, in 44.27. Steven Scott came 143rd in 48.34, Ian Codling 444th in 70.26, Liz Stephenson 464th in 74.45 and Marian Codling 465th in 75.30.

Josh Fothergill probably enjoyed more the conditions at the Fountains Abbey Park Run the previous day, coming a fine 6th out of 345 in PB 18.31, Walter Busuttil 29th in 20.33, Duncan Fothergill 84th in 23.54, Linda Bamforth 210th in 29.25, Paul Adams 215th in 29.53, Steve Isaac 219th in yet another PB 30.13, and James Stephenson 264th in PB 31.56.

At Northallerton, Ken Wood was pleased with his 4th out of 106 in 21.47, as was Mike Lowther, 6th in PB 22.07, Rob Burn 11th in 23.02 and Phillip Craig 49th in 27.25.

Charlotte Wilton again shone at Albert Park, coming 23rd ouf of 227, and 1st lady, in 20.50, and Hayley Tyson was 224th out of 699 in 24.42. Ken Evitt and granddaughter Leah were again at Darlington South Park with Ken 216th out of 265 in 33.34, just behind Leah. Joanne Richardson at Catterick came 107th out of 119 in 40.15.

Lorraine Hiles was again in good form at the Saltergate Gallows Fell Race the previous weekend, Race 3 in the Dave Parry Winter Series, coming 67th out of 118 in 70.59, once agin picking up the prize for the 1st F50. Well done, Lorraine.
