THE suspension of head teacher Pauline Woods (Echo, June 30) is yet another case of political correctness going overboard. After all she was only telling the truth.

Many years ago I met a director of a company who employed thousands of workers, he went to great lengths to explain that in any workforce or even a group of people there are a mix of personalities, some are lazy, some jobsworths, and there’s the odd sick note and so forth, so why would the education system be any different?

As an employer of 40-odd years I have found the formula to be always spot on.

Leaders like Ms Woods are difficult to find and if you discount them you only have the second best or worse to work with.

If I was selecting school governors I would not select the one that suspended the head teacher, because on my scale of things he is the jobsworth.
