Sir, – Towards the end of last year, the churches of Hawes, Hardraw, Stalling Busk and Askrigg were united, with the Rev Ann Chapman, former vicar of Askrigg and Stalling Busk, as priest in charge. She is assisted by curates, the Rev Ian Robinson and the Rev Michael Blanch.
For Easter week, they were joined by the Rt Rev James Bell, Bishop of Knaresborough. During the week, services were combined so that the whole community could enjoy the bishop’s visit.
As the Church of England faces challenging times, I would like to voice the thanks of many for showing through the united Easter Sunday service at Hawes, what can be achieved through working together through a period of change, by compromise and a willingness to adapt.
Easter in Upper Wensleydale was a true celebration of faith, love and hope. Thank you to all those who worked so hard to achieve it.
ELIZABETH GUY Askrigg.
