Sir, – T E Forth thinks that weekly refuse collections should be reinstated because the receptacles provided are too small (D&S, Jan 8).
While I am no apologist for the Richmondshire refuse collection services, I do wonder what on earth he/she puts in his/hers. Does he/she eat and drink only out of jars, tins and bottles? Does he/she buy a dozen newspapers a day?
As for the green bins, in my view they are totally unnecessary since people without gardens don’t produce garden waste, garden waste can go on a compost heap, woody stuff that won’t compost will burn and most gardeners would be glad to receive household green waste such as vegetable peelings, banana skins and teabags from their gardenless neighbours.
