Sir, – The recent survey into family break-up and the impact of divorce on children highlights a serious issue. Divorce and separation is a period of huge change for all the family, and children can get caught in the middle when things go wrong between their parents.
But it doesn’t have to be like this.
There is nothing inevitable about children being caught in the middle or losing contact with a parent. Family law organisation Resolution’s 5,500 members see how deeply parents want to get things right for their children when a relationship breaks down and witness at first hand the difficulties separating parents face in accessing help and guidance about this.
Because of this, Resolution has pioneered parenting after parting workshops to help parents to help their children through this transition. As well as the workshops parents can find help through a dedicated webspace (www.resolution.org.uk/parentingafterparting, and a booklet for parents going through divorce.
