I HAVE been reading with interest the articles on grouse shooting, and I’d like to point out a wider consequence any potential ban would have.
Durham Tees Valley Airport isn’t doing as badly as many think it is at the moment.
However, it still could well do without the hit it would take if grouse shooting were to be banned, as during the shooting months the airport sees a significant spike in private jet visitors from all corners of the globe who fly in to pursue the sport.
Here for the Glorious Twelfth alone were jets from Germany, the Netherlands, America and elsewhere in the UK.
Visitors remain consistent through to the end of the season in February, and between them all I would imagine their contribution to the local economy extends well into the millions.
