RICHARD SANDERSON (D&S Times, Jan 29) writes in support of Leyburn, a theme with which I strongly agree.
Leyburn is a vibrant market town – its monthly magazine lists 45 local voluntary organisations and the recently established U3A already has 170 participants.
All of this in a small town of 3,000 people.
Also, Leyburn has an outstanding shopping centre round the market place with other valuable services nearby in the business park. There is not much you cannot buy in Leyburn.
My wife and I choose to pay for a Richmondshire District Council annual parking permit, so never have a parking problem but Mr Sanderson is absolutely right about people parking all day for free in the Market Place.
As he says, the solution to this is blindingly obvious: a disc parking system. Why it has been resisted is beyond me and I just hope this elegant, low cost solution can be introduced soon.
