Sir, – Further to the article about a campaign to save Redcar’s Regent Cinema (D&S Mar 21) one can understand people’s concerns in relation to the successful bid for a multi-leisure development on the Redcar Bowl site.
However, the cabinet member for corporate resource, Norman Pickthall, did state that the council is considering how it might improve the external appearance of the building.
I hope the people of Redcar and the local area will see the proposed development of the Redcar Bowl as another step forward in the continuing regeneration of the borough.
This, along with the new civic centre, the new leisure centre and a state-of-the-art swimming pool to open just before the end of April this year should be a big boost for local businesses, as well as residents of the borough and further afield.
Coun GEORGE DUNNING Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
