Sir – Your newspaper regularly reports on the concerns residents have over the impact of new housing developments.

Living at the rear of one of these recent developments my neighbours and I have, since the original planning application, pointed out what in our opinion was one of the major problems with the site where it adjoins our property – namely its propensity to flood.

The staff from the council planning office assured us all was well and the developers had done all they need to, the developers told us without any details that drainage was suitable.

Imagine my surprise then when returning home today I found a foot of water at the bottom of my garden and the part finished house behind us sitting in standing water.

Out of a sense of public duty calls were made to the site manager and project manager, no reply. Calls to the developer’s emergency number solicited the answer that it was to do with the rain and they wouldn't be doing anything about it.

So to all those raising similar concerns don't stop asking questions but above all ask who takes responsibility.

TIMOTHY WOOD Guisborough.
