RIVAL cricket teams are set to go head-to-head – not on the cricket pitch but in the kitchen.

Richmondshire Cricket Club and Rockliffe Park Cricket Club, based at Rockliffe Hall, near Darlington, have joined forces for a fun evening to raise funds for both clubs that will ignite their competitive spirit.

Mark Layfield, chairman of the Richmond-based club, said together they have organised Chance to Dine – a Masterchef-style event which allows diners to pick the best meals.

He said: "Each club has a professional chef and a 'have a go' chef from each club who thinks he has what it takes in the kitchen. An expert panel will be there to give their views on the four-course dinner, and the guests will vote on their favourite.

"There will be auctions throughout the night and it should be a lot of fun."

Mr Layfield said the challengers will create two courses each.

He added: "It is a fundraising event for both clubs and was inspired by something similar that has been done at Lords. It is not often two clubs work together like this so it should make for a great evening."

Tickets for the event, held at Richmondshire Cricket Club in Hurgill Road, Richmond on Saturday, February 23, cost £35 and are available from Mr Layfield on 07803-239593 or Richard Howell on 07930-038931.
