THE founder of a company that has grown its business by 700pc in one year has been named the 2010-11 Entrepreneur of the Year at Richmondshire District Council’s Citizenship Awards.

Julian Martin, managing director of ICE Renewables, was recognised for having made a significant contribution to the local economy.

Mr Martin, who now employs 20 people, said: “I set up ICE after an idea in the shower and five years later we are market leaders in our industry.

“I am delighted to received this award and am proud that Richmondshire district council recognises ICE Renewables contribution to the region.”

The company is a leading renewable energy business advising, supplying and installing wind turbines, solar PV and Anerobic Digestion to farmers, agricultural businesses and corporate clients.

It specialises in supplying best in class wind turbines across the Feed in Tariff bands and provides technical services to support them.

During the past 12 months, Mr Martin was appointed the inaugural chairman for the Renewable UK medium wind group, which is tasked with developing the first UK turbine design and installation standard for the rapidly growing sector.

The role involves working with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and world trade associations and companies.

He also represents medium wind on the recently-formed government advisory panel on the Feed in Tariffs with regular meetings with the DECC and access to the minister.
