A FAther-and-son team chalked up their 15th title win at Skipton Auction Mart on January 24.
Malcolm and Robert Swires, of Haverah Park, Beckwithshaw, Harrogate, won with their newly-calven Holstein Friesian commercial heifer, giving 32.5 litres.
Home-bred, she is by Myersdale Principal, bought from Geoff Spence, of Northallerton. The same sire has been responsible for other Swires’ Skipton successes.
Their latest winner sold for £1,980 to Ken Liversedge, of Wilberfoss, York.
Their second-prize heifer achieved top price in show at £2,020 when joining Alan Outram, Bury.
The ten-strong Swires’ entry of newly-calven milkers all sold well to an average of £1,756.
Reserve champion was the first-prize second-calver 30-litre cow from Gordon Beresford, of Green Farm, Halton West, which joined Wick Williams, Nantwich, for £1,840 (top price in class).
Best of the in-calf heifers was from Robert Phillip, Hellifield and sold for £1,240 to David Shuttleworth, Gargrave.
There were 46 dairy cattle forward. Of the 27 newly-calven milkers, heifers averaged £1,660 and cows £1,548.
