A QUARRY inspector who also works with troubled children has combined his two roles to write a book based on his experiences.

Drawing on a decade working in quarries and mines throughout County Durham, Mike Tweddle, of Bridge Road, Darlington, has had his book, Down in the Dark, published.

The book follows the adventures of 15-year-old tearaway Nelson as he encounters environmental skullduggery in the countryside.

“I like to think it is a riproaring ride,” said Mr Tweddle, 44. “What I have learnt over the past ten years is that not everyone working in the environmental game is in it for the good of it; a lot are in it to make money.

“There are a lot of good operators as well, but my book hopefully shows the other aspect of the industry.

“I have tried to make it an adventure that is fictional, but also based in reality. It’s believable because all these things could or have actually happened.”

The book is available now through several major online retailers. Guru Boutique and the Forum Music Centre in Darlington are also stocking the book, where it is available for £5.50.
