Northallerton Co-op, independent since 1803, is to join the much larger North Yorkshire society in a move that will lead to the building of a big new store on its Northallerton High Street site. The merger, agreed between the directors of the two societies but requiring the approval of the 7,000 Northallerton members at two meetings to be held this month.
