A LEADING conservatory supplier is looking to pass on the skills of its craftsmen by recruiting three young apprentices.

Amdega, founded in Darlington in 1874 and employing in excess of 200 people, has taken on three students from the modern apprenticeship scheme at Darlington College.

The firm, with its headquarters at Faverdale, has representatives in 15 countries worldwide and an annual turnover close to £30m.

However, it realised it had an ageing workforce and needed to recruit younger employees to learn from their skilled craftsmen through apprenticeships.

Student David O’Neill, 19, has been employed as an apprentice to work with high precision machines in the manufacturing process.

Christopher Cartwright, 19, and Rebecca Worley, 17, have been hired as apprentice project coordinators working in the management for bespoke conservatory projects.
