FARMERS and landowners in the North Pennines have the opportunity to find out about Natural England’s Uplands Entry Level Stewardship next week.

A meeting will be held at Mickleton Village Hall on Thursday between 7pm and 9pm.

Joining the voluntary scheme which comes into place next year will provide a regular income and gives farmers an extra £15-32 per hectare on top of the ELS payments of £8-30 per hectare.

Alison Hiles, of Natural England’s North- East Land Management Advisory Service, said: “We hope that local farmers will take the opportunity to come along to this event and learn more about this new scheme. It’s a chance to ask questions and find out about all the support and advice that is available.

“The start date for UELS is rapidly approaching, so we are encouraging anyone farming in upland areas to come along and find out what it’s all about.”

The free event includes a buffet supper.

Booking is essential on 0300-230-3754 or by email farmevents@naturalengland.org.uk.
