AN EXHIBITION inspired by Rosedale Abbey on the North York Moors will be on show in the remote location of Updale Reading Room at Rosedale next weekend.
Andrew Cheetham spent a year exploring the area, documenting the remains of the iron ore mines, cottages, marker stones and trods. He has also produced landscape paintings which capture the changing seasons.
His exhibition on December 5 and 6 will include drawings, paintings, sketchbooks and photographs. The work was produced under the Inspired by Heritage programme of residencies for contemporary artists and makers in North Yorkshire. These offer an artist or maker opportunities to develop and create at least one new piece inspired by a collection or heritage site.
The programme is part of the Art Connections project and is supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Harrogate Borough Council, Chrysalis Arts Development and Ryedale District Council.
The preview is next Friday at 6.30pm. Viewing on the Saturday and Sunday is from 10.30am-4pm. The Reading Room is about a mile north of Rosedale Abbey in Daleside Road, signposted “Dalehead only”.
