COMMUNITY groups are asked to submit projects to improve green spaces to win a competition that offers £1,000 of aid.

Fiskars, who make garden tools, are offering the funds as part of its Fiskars Orange Thumb scheme at the Harrogate Flower Show.

The competition is open across North Yorkshire to anyone who is looking to transform a green space and the winner will be picked at random.

Wayne Greensmith, Fiskars Brands UK senior brand manager, said: "We have launched this as we want to give something back to the community.

"With this in mind we are offering local people the chance to nominate a project in their area for the Fiskars Orange Thumb team to makeover."

The team is also looking for volunteers who would like to help out on whichever restoration project is selected.

To register an interest, or to nominate an area, write to Fiskars Orange Thumb Project, Fiskars Brands UK, Newlands Avenue, Bridgend, CF31 2XA.

Details can also be found on-line by visiting www.orangethumb.co.uk with a deadline of Monday, May 4.
