THE Shop Local North Yorkshire scheme, set up last month to encourage support for independent retailers is expanding into Leyburn.
Originally launched in Bedale and later extended into Masham and Northallerton, the scheme sees customers pay £2.50 for a loyalty card in return for special offers and discounts for participating stores.
Organiser Cath Grimsey said: “Shop Local has had a bumper week in Leyburn this week.
“It has gone from strength to strength since the launch.”
It is hoped to get Richmond MP William Hague to buy one of the cards to further enhance the scheme’s profile.
