The Magic of Terry Pratchett show is coming to Barnard Castle to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Discworld series.
Author, comedian, and Terry Pratchett fan, Marc Burrows invites audiences to come along for the comic lecture on October 3.
The Magic of Terry Pratchett is a comic lecture in which Burrows explores Pratchett's influences, his rise to fame, impact, and unique life, becoming one of the most beloved storytellers of all time.
From the national treasure’s days as a school librarian, to his time as a trainee journalist, to his untimely death in 2015 and in keeping with Pratchett’s own style, the show is a gently comic celebration and exploration of his work.
It also seriously examines his death, and the activism he was involved with toward the end of his life surrounding dementia treatment and the right-to-die; an important part of his story and legacy.
Marc Burrows says that the show is for everyone from die-hard Pratchett fans to people completely new to him.
When asked about performing in Barnard Castle he said "if Barnard Castle did not already exist Terry Pratchett would have had to invent it".
He said: "I can’t wait to bring the show there, because it feels like stepping through the page into Terry’s Discworld itself—an ancient market town, amid stunning landscapes focussed around a medieval castle?
"That’s the town of Lancre!
"Terry loved these aspects of England and the profound history that can be seen around us.
"Even the beautiful, Victorian building that houses the Witham theatre space itself feels like something Terry would have described.
"He was also not above a bit of political satire, and given the town’s more recent history ... well.
"He’d have been revelling in it. I can’t think of a more perfect location to perform The Magic of Terry Pratchett."
