Burglars have damaged a stained glass window during a break-in at a historic County Durham church.
Police are investigating after the raid on St Mary's Church in Staindrop, near Barnard Castle.
Burglars stole several items from the church - described as a medieval gem, based on an 8th Century Saxon foundation with earlier Saxon churches incorporated into the ‘newer’ building
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Last night (Tuesday, September 10) St Mary's Church was broken into, causing damage to the stained glass window to gain entry and stealing items within the church.
