Two men have been charged following violent disorder in Darlington on Monday evening.
Cole Stewart, of Victoria Road, Darlington, and Brandon Welch, of Warkworth Way, Darlington, have both been charged with violent disorder.
The pair, who are both 18, have been remanded in custody to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court this morning (August 7).
Police described ‘sporadic pockets of violent disorder’ in the North Lodge Park area of the town on Monday (August 5) evening.
Bricks were hurled at officers who attended the scene.
Investigations into the disorder are ongoing.
Section 60 and 60AA powers have now been authorised in the area, giving officers enhanced stop and search capabilities and authority to order people to remove face coverings intended to disguise or conceal their appearance.
It follows disorder in Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, and Sunderland in recent days.
A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "If you have any information that could assist the investigation, please contact us on 101, or use the live chat function on our website.
"Information can also be submitted anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website at www.crimestoppers-org.uk."
