Vandals have felled an 80-year-old sycamore tree on the edge of a County Durham village prompting a police investigation.
The tree along the Hudeshope Beck, which flows into the River Tees, at Middleton-in-Teesdale, is believed to have been illegally felled on Saturday, May 18.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for information after an 80-year-old sycamore tree was vandalised.
"The tree, which stood behind The Forresters Bar and Restaurant, in Middleton-in-Teesdale, is believed to have been illegally felled at around 7pm on May 18.
