A stately home and its grounds in North Yorkshire closed for two days recently to allow filming for an American documentary to take place.

The documentary will explore the life of George Calvert, the first Baron Baltimore and the first owner of Kiplin Hall, between Richmond and Northallerton, in the 1620s.

Calvert, and his family, went on to found a colony in America which became the state of Maryland. Its capital city is Baltimore – named after the Calverts.

During the filming, a horse drawn carriage typical of the style in the 1620s was used, while extras dressed as domestic staff were also spotted.

Kiplin Hall and Gardens is open six days a week, closed on Thursdays. For more information visit www.kiplinhall.co.uk.
